Terms of service

Effective 12 June 2026. These terms cover the Tonebox website, the early-access program, the contact form, and any web services we offer, plus your use of the Tonebox macOS app during early access.

1. The app & early access

The Tonebox macOS application is currently distributed through a private early-access program, free of charge. Your invite grants you a personal, non-transferable license to install and use the app on Macs you control. Beta software changes fast and is provided "as is", without warranty; keep backups of anything you can't afford to lose (your recordings live in a plain folder you control, which makes that easy). The in-app license text is the source of truth for the app itself.

2. The website

By using the Tonebox website you agree that:

  • You won't try to break it (no scraping past rate limits, no probing for vulnerabilities outside a coordinated disclosure to [email protected]).
  • Content you submit through forms is your own and doesn't infringe anyone else's rights.
  • We may rate-limit, throttle, or temporarily block requests that look automated or abusive.

3. Third-party services

When you connect Tonebox to a third-party model provider (Anthropic, OpenAI, Ollama, etc.), your use of that provider is governed by their terms — not ours. We don't control what they do with the data you send, beyond declining to send it ourselves unless you ask.

4. No warranty for the website

We aim to keep the site reliable, but we offer it "as is." We don't guarantee uptime, error-free operation, or that it will meet your specific needs. We're not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the site.

5. Trademarks

"Tonebox" and the Tonebox logo are trademarks (or pending) of the project. Nothing in these terms or the early-access license grants you the right to distribute software under the Tonebox name or branding.

6. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms over time. Material changes will be noted by updating the effective date at the top of this page.

7. Governing law

Where applicable law allows it, these terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the project maintainer is resident. Disputes that can't be resolved by email will be handled in the competent courts of that jurisdiction.
